19.9. Starter

On the car with the engine UEPA-331 the starter 421.3708 is established. On the car with the VAZ-2106 engine the starter 35.3708 is applied. Starters have almost identical design, however assembled, are not interchanged podetalno.

Starter — the chetyrekhshetochny electric motor of a direct current with the mixed excitement and with the electromagnetic dvukhobmotochny traction relay.

In the starter case screws fixed four poles with excitement windings: three seriyesny (consecutive) and one shuntovy (parallel). The case of a starter 421.3708 together with covers is pulled together with two hairpins, and the anchor rotates in three bronze-and-graphite bearings fixed in forward and back covers of the case and an intermediate support. The case of a starter 35.3708 together with covers is pulled together with two bolts, and the anchor of a starter has a face collector and rotates in two ceramic-metal bearings.

On a shaft of the drive the coupling of a free wheeling (the obgonny coupling) with a driving gear wheel is installed. It transfers torque only in one direction — from a starter to the engine, separating them after launch of the engine. It is necessary for protection of an anchor of a starter against damage because of the excessive frequency of rotation.

The traction relay serves for input of a gear wheel of the drive in gearing with a gear wreath of a flywheel of a bent shaft of the engine and inclusion of power supply of the electric motor of a starter. At turn of a key in situation "starter" tension via the additional relay of 113.3747-10 type moves on the involving and holding windings of the traction relay. After short circuit of contacts of the traction relay the involving winding is disconnected.

Tension of operation of the traction relay has to be no more than 9 V at (20±5) °C. If it is higher, the relay or the drive are faulty. Serviceability of the drive is defined at survey after dismantling of a starter. The faulty relay is replaced.
