4. Cooling system

Description of a design

Car cooling systems å engines UEPA-331 and VAZ-2106 are similar on the device and the principle of work though the main knots and details (except for the electric fan, the sensor of its inclusion and broad a tank) — original and not interchangeable.

The cooling system — liquid, the closed type, with compulsory circulation. Circulation is provided with the pump of cooling liquid installed in inflow of the block of cylinders (engine UEPA-331) or in the case attached to the block of cylinders by bolts (VAZ-2106 engine). Pumps of both engines — bladed, centrifugal type, are given by a maple belt from a pulley of a bent shaft. At wear of bearings of a shaft or leak of cooling liquid the pump is recommended to be replaced.

Tightness of system is provided inlet and final with valves in a stopper of a broad tank. The final valve supports pressure in system on the hot engine at the expense of what temperature of boiling of liquid increases and its steam losses decrease. The inlet valve opens at pressure decline in system rather atmospheric on the cooling-down diigagel. The broad tank is made of translucent polyethylene that allows to control visually amount of liquid in the cooling system (its level on the cold engine has to be not lower than the mark MIN in a wall of a broad tank).

Thermal power setting is supported by the thermostat and the electric fan of a radiator. The thermostat with a firm thermosensitive element operates redistribution of streams of liquid in the cooling system. On the engine UEPA-331 the thermostat of the CU 103 is installed on the left side. On the VAZ-2106 engine the thermostat of the CU 102 is located on the right side.

The principle of operation of both thermostats is identical (externally thermostats differ with an arrangement of branch pipes). On the cold engine the main valve of the thermostat blocks the branch pipe conducting to a radiator, and liquid circulates only on a small circle. At a temperature of 80±3 °C (for the thermostat of the CU 103) or 82±3 °C (for the TC102 thermostat) the main valve begins to open, bypassing a part of liquid through a radiator. At a temperature of 87±3 °C (for the thermostat of the CU 103) or 90±3 °C (for the thermostat of the CU 102) the main valve of the thermostat completely opens, and bypass is closed, and through a radiator all liquid begins to circulate already. The course of the main valve at both thermostats has to make not less than 6 mm.

The radiator consists of two vertical plastic tanks and two horizontal rows of aluminum tubes with the cooling plates, napressovanny on them. For increase in efficiency of cooling of a plate are stamped with notches. Tubes are connected to tanks through rubber laying. Liquid comes to a radiator through the top branch pipe, and is taken away through lower. Both branch pipes are located on a car radiator with the engine UEPA-331 in the left tank, and on a car radiator with the VAZ-2106 engine - in the right tank. In the top part of the left tanks of both radiators the thin branch pipe of the steam discharge tube connecting a radiator to a broad tank is located. For discharge of cooling liquid in a car radiator with the engine UEPA-331 the opening with a stopper is provided in the lower part of the right tank. From a car radiator with the VAZ-2106 engine liquid is merged, disconnecting a hose from the metal union screwed in a carving opening in the lower part of the left tank.

The sensor of turning on of the electric fan of the cooling system of 661.3710 type on the car with the engine UEPA-331 is located in the right tank of a radiator, and on the car with the VAZ-2106 engine - in left. The sensor turns on the electric fan via the relay installed on the left mudguard. Contacts of the sensor become isolated at a temperature of 92±3 °C, and are disconnected at a temperature of 87±3 °C. The fan electric motor with a krylchatka is installed on the metal directing casing attached to radiator tanks.

Blades of the electric fan rotate with high speed and can put a trauma if to work under a cowl without due care.

The sensor intended for control of temperature of cooling liquid and connected with the index of temperature in a combination of devices on the engine UEPA-331 is installed in the taking-away branch pipe of a yulovka of the block of cylinders. On the VAZ-2106 engine the sensor is installed in a head of an olok of cylinders of the engine near a candle of the fourth cylinder.
